Fishing at Borrowpit Lake, Tamworth
Location:
Borrowpit Lake is located in the heart of Tamworth, Staffordshire, adjacent to the
Snowdome leisure complex. The lake was originally excavated to supply aggregate during
the construction of a section of the town's ring road known locally as "The Egg."

Moor Lane and Amington Stretches – River Anker, Tamworth
The Moor Lane stretch of the River Anker runs upstream from the railway bridge near
Tamworth train station to the end of the next meadow. Just downstream, The Lamb
Angling Club manages the Amington section, which begins at the stile beside the nearby
stables and continues down to the wooden bridge. This area is known locally as the “Shag
Water” or “Dickies.”
Both stretches offer a similar angling experience and are noted for their very occasional,
but impressive, Barbel. These elusive fish are a true challenge for any angler, often
requiring patience, dedication, and experience. However, for those who succeed, the
reward could be a once-in-a-lifetime specimen.
In addition to Barbel, both stretches regularly produce quality Chub, with fish over 5lb
being recorded. Anglers can also expect to encounter a variety of other species typical of a
healthy English river, including Roach, Gudgeon, Perch, Pike, Ruffe, Tench, Bream, and
even the occasional Carp.
These sections of the Anker provide a mix of challenge and variety, making them popular
among local anglers seeking both specimen fish and an enjoyable day by the water.
